  • WE ARE for Science advocates for change, action, and inclusion within science, and supports the accurate representation of science in policy, education, and society, while promoting the success of a diverse generation of scientists.

KEY EVENTS/PROGRAMS/SERVICES:

  • Diversity & Inclusion Mixers: Social events aimed at engaging and connecting graduate students, faculty, and staff from underrepresented groups.
  • Faces of Science: A campaign aimed at highlighting the diversity of scientists. Visit the website at www.realfacesofscience.com
  • Diversity in STEM Panel Discussions: Evening-long panel discussions on the importance of diversity in STEM, featuring Penn State faculty members. Other panel discussions, focusing on topics ranging from communicating with policy makers to climate change issues, have also been held.
  • Ask A Scientist: An event at which members of the community can interface with Penn State researchers and ask general science questions or inquire about their research.
  • K12 Outreach: Collaborations between Penn State groups/individuals and WE ARE for Science aimed at bringing science outreach to local K-12 classrooms.
  • Phone Banking Events: An event aimed at creating a space for members of the University Park and State College communities to engage in local and state issues by contacting representatives about current policy decisions.

HOW TO COLLABORATE:

  • Creation of a Science Outreach Questionnaire in collaboration with the EMS Broader Impacts Group to help assess faculty’s Broader Impacts (BI) needs and develop effective BI activities and plans.
